Opening his eyes slowly again to blink at her quietly, he huffed a breath at her declaration of his wish being granted. "You're making it very hard for me to keep this entire moment kosher so to speak." Cause with each little touch and kiss he wanted to move her somewhere he could just have her.
Lucky for him, she got distracted by the fish slipping through the water around them. Tipping his head to watch them, he traced his eyes down Jane's arm into the water. He didn't stop her, but he did watch with a slightly wary eyes as his arms wrapped about her waist lightly. "They're beautiful." They were. He wasn't lying.
In the dark, they lit up the water like a colorful light show, painting shifting patterns of light and shadow over Jane's face when he looked back at her and smiled slowly. "But I mean... there are things far prettier here to look at."
no subject
The fish drew some of her attention away, though, at least briefly, and for a while she seemed marvelled by how brightly they shone on the water, a few more showing up, their glow lighting up the water all around them. She wasn't wary or afraid, though. The natives spoke of the fish like some sort of tourist attraction, so Jane figured they weren't even the least bit dangerous.
Her gaze shifted back to Bones when he spoke again, eyebrows slightly raised, expression softening into a warm smile as she ducked her head a little. "You sweet talker, you." Not that she was all that surprised, but it was especially nice to be on the receiving end of Bones's ridiculously romantic ways.

Leonard smoothed his hands down to cup her ass and press her against him as he idly wondered liked being that close to him like he liked being close to her. Unlike her, his 'eagerness' was obvious as his arousal press against her. Something he tried to ignore as his eyes trailed after one of the fish and her hands as she reached for them.
"Oh? You thought I mean you. I meant the water. Looks mighty pretty with all the lights goin' off under the surface." He sent her the most smug grin he could muster as he sent her a wink. But he did mean her. Damn it all if he didn't mean her. Chuckling softly, he leaned in and nipped at her ear. "They got nothin' on you."
no subject
She did gasp, but it was a sound of feigned offense at his words instead, and she swatted a few drops of water at his face. "You ass!" She snorted right after, though, shaking her head as she wrapped both arms around his neck again, her smile softer at his next words.
"You're a damn gooey romantic, Leonard McCoy," she teased a little, her other leg floating up and curling loosely around Bones's waist. Though not her intent at first, the shifting of her body had her hips rocking very faintly against his bulge, drawing a soft gasp from her. "I think... you should get me out of here."
no subject
Unless he accidentally slipped while he talked about her to someone else.
Dropping both hands to her hips, he slipped them down the length of her thighs and suddenly tightened his grip as she shifted and rocked against him. Drawing in a sharp breath, he closed his eyes and dropped his head on her shoulder. It took a conscious effort to ease his hold on her thighs as he came down off that shock of sensation. "Damn it, Jane... Tryin' to make me crazy?"
Forcing his breathing to even out, he leaned back to catch Jane's eyes quietly. Finally he tipped his head to bite lightly at her lower lip. "Is that a request to go back to one of our rooms, darlin'? Or is there somethin' else you have in mind?"
no subject
Smile stretched to a grin as she chuckled, though a little breathlessly, her arms unwinding from around his neck and her hands sliding down to his shoulders, holding on there. "Sorry," she said while at least having the decency to look mildly apologetic. "For what it's worth I'm driving myself crazy too."
But she was never one for wasting time (or a good opportunity), so she let her legs drop from Bones's sides, feet touching the sand as she reached for one of his hands and tugged him along. "Well, I was thinking of one of our rooms," she shrugged, raising an eyebrow at him as they slowly trudged along the sea and towards the beach again. "You're the one who seems full of ideas."
no subject
"Your sarcasm isn't attractive." Lie that it was. He loved snarking and throwing sarcasm back and forth with her. It was as easy as breathing. But he didn't say anything. "Probably mine. Scotty told me you didn't intend to stay planetside all that long." Jane and Scotty both were too damn attached to that ship.
Shaking his head, he moved with her through the water and ran his hands through his wet hair. "But a room definitely. Cause I am not getting sand all over and in bad places. Though, I did pick the room with the really nice bathtub.. cause unlike you, I planned to enjoy time away from space."
no subject
"No, but I still got a room." Honestly, there was to much work to be done, and she hadn't had anything or anyone to keep her here for the duration of their stay. Not until now, anyway. She hadn't expected for things with Bones to turn out this way, but now they had, she wasn't about to waste that opportunity.
She let go of his hand once they were out of the water, making her way to where their clothes were and putting on her shorts, just in case they crossed paths with anyone. She was in her panties, after all. "Mm, a really nice bathtub does sound very tempting right now," she turned to him while shrugging on her shirt, though not unbuttoning it. Eyes rolling, she shook her head. "Oh, shut it. I'm enjoying it now, aren't I?"
no subject
“Gotta keep up those appearances.” He replied dryly at her assertion of getting a room. “Cause you knew I’d throw a fit if you didn’t get at least one day of rest.” And he would have. He’d have hidden every single one of her reports and kidnapped her if she’d fought him too hard on it. Well, better than threatening her with the CMO card, cause he could. He just preferred they figure it out by other means. Even if those other means looked insanely drastic to everyone else. To him, drastic was giving her an order. He hated doing that.
Once out of the water, he picked up his clothes and put his pants on. He decided there was no point of putting on shoes with the sand and he was wet anyway, so the shirt really was pointless. Pants were more for decency. Shifting the shirt and shoes to one hand, he pinched her side playfully. “Oh, I plan to make sure you do more than enjoy it ‘right now’.”
Smirking, he winked at her before moving off just a few steps and turning to offer his hand to her. His eyes only stayed on her face a second before gliding down her body slowly. “Sweet heart… I would like nothin’ better than to get you in that bathtub with me. And I mean that in the least gentlemanly way.”
no subject
Not that it'd be the case now. She hadn't had much reason to stay down at the resort for the whole time they were there before, but now she had a very good incentive. She definitely intended to enjoy every single second she could with Bones now. Work could wait.
She hummed at the promise of sorts, wiggling a little when he pinched her side, grabbing Bones by his shoulders and pressing herself close to him so she could kiss him. "Then I hope you plan to make sure I enjoy it for a very... very long time."
Lips parted, she breathed warmly against his, then nipped at his lower lip before she pulled away— not before giving his ass a firm squeeze, then taking hold of his hand. "Better get me to your room, Bones, or I swear I'll climb you like a tree no matter where we are."
no subject
Which might be part of why he leaned down with that pull on his shoulder so easily. Melting into her kiss, he knew that well... kissing her was just the main part. Shivering from head to foot, he sighed against her lips. "Darlin'... if I had my way I'd be findin' ways to make sure you enjoy every moment for the rest of your life. But I don't want to make assumptions that you'd want me around that long."
It was said in a thickly drawled and lilting tone. Soft and sweet as he pressed his lips against the curve of her neck just before he pulled away. He could still taste her on his lips and tongue as he hummed a pleased sound. "Can't say I've ever been told I was gonna be climbed like a tree. How does that work exactly?" Smirking lightly, he pulled Jane back in the direction of the hotel. Lacing their fingers together, he made no delay in leading them both.
no subject
So it only made sense to her that it applied in this case, too. She wasn't really sure what that meant for Bones— if he was even the kind to want to marry again, or if he'd been disillusioned by his first try not having gone all that well. Either way, she figured that wasn't something they'd have to think about right now. It'd hold, and Jane for one was fine with... well, anything, really.
"Oh, you know... like the spider monkey I am," she pointed out teasingly, though at least this time around she didn't actually jump on him like before. That would delay their trip back to his room, after all, and she couldn't have that.
no subject
And well, that one person had been Jane for longer than he wanted to admit. Well, no matter if she answered or not, he ignored that twinge of worry and maybe a touch of disappointment and turned his thoughts back to the thread of thought she did keep going.
"You are a damn spider monkey. Tiny and compact and surprisingly acrobatic when necessary." Rolling his eyes, he tipped his head. "C'mon princess..." Teasing softly, he curled an arm about her waist and started to guide her back again. "Unless you expect me to carry you all the way back?"
no subject
It was much, much more than that. It wasn't like she was expecting for it to happen like this, though, so sudden and quick, but she certainly wasn't about to complain, either.
"Oh, you have no idea how surprisingly acrobatic," she murmured in a lilting tone, biting at her lower lip as she picked up her pace a little, keeping herself close to him as he wrapped his arm around her waist. "No, I can walk. Why? Not moving fast enough for you?"
no subject
Splaying his fingers out over her hip, he pressed the fingertips into her pelvis lightly. "Maybe, maybe not. Can you blame a guy for waiting years to get close to you like that?" He gave her a purposely expectant look before ducking his head with a small smile. "I feel like I've wasted so much time. But then... maybe I didn't. Guess I don't know if I'm not sure when you decided I looked like relationship material."
His mind even hazarded 'marriage material' but he bit into his lip instead. Shaking his head, he leaned over and kissed the top of her head. "Guess I've waited this long, right?"
no subject
She snaked an arm around his waist when his hand found her hipbone, humming quietly as she kept herself close to him. "Years, hm? Think you've got me beat there." Well, technically it had been years of waiting for her too, but... something about the way he said it made it sound like it had been a whole longer for him. And honestly, when she thought of it, she could see it. She was starting to think she was a complete idiot that she'd never noticed before.
"Guess we'll just have to make up for lost time." And besides, this might just be the perfect time. Any earlier and maybe Jane wouldn't have really been ready for something steady or serious in any way. Now... well, she liked to think she changed in a lot of different ways.
Which was why his last remark drew a soft snort from her, shaking her head and pressing her temple to the nook of his shoulder. "You're kidding me? If there's anyone here who was never relationship material, it's definitely me."
no subject
Shrugging a little at that, he looked away. "I figured that much." But then, most everyone seemed to know he had a thing for Jane since he started working on the Enterprise. But then again, smuggling her on board for no apparent reason put him on the top of the list for love smitten. Not that he fully acknowledged those feelings at the time, but they were there even then.
Looking back at that comment about making up for lost time, he smiled at her softly. Yeah. There was that. Least she wasn't about to die on him at the moment so it didn't feel like some desperate confession. But the fact remained she did die on him once. And it still gave him nightmares at night.
"Where I've been jealous as hell about every single person that got to touch you, I also know I'm the only one you let stay close to you for years. Though it chafed a little having to share that with Spock." And likely still did. Maybe someday he would completely forgive him for dumping Jane on an ice rock. Well, he was getting better at not thinking about it so much anyway. "Also know I got slammed with the divorce from hell for multiple reasons and many of them revolving on how I'm not good relationship material. And apparently unmarriable." Snorting softly, he hugged her closer softly.
"Not that I'm against tryin' that again... you know... with the right person." And maybe he sounded... a touch hopeful there.
no subject
And she did have a good time. It was just that... well, in retrospect, it was all very meaningless. How sometimes she didn't even memorize faces enough to recognize the same people as she saw them around the Academy, or how she might've mixed up a few names here and there. While she felt a little bad now, thinking she might've hurt Bones if he already had feelings for her then, she was also glad that she never tried to make a move on him. She could've very well ruined a great thing thanks to poor timing alone.
This was better. Maybe they ended up suffering a little (or a lot, in Bones's case), but they knew each other better now. They knew themselves better now, too, and were in a much better place to have something more serious, more... meaningful.
"Hey, you don't have to share anything with Spock, stop that," she huffed, rolling her eyes a little at the topic. "He's my friend and my first officer. I trust him, and I do like him. But it's not the same as you. It'll never be the same as you."
Nothing could be, honestly. No one could be.
Slowing to a halt at the last question, she turned so she was facing him, smiling as her hands settled on his chest. She got on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his in a slow kiss, pulling away again before answering. "How about we start with dating and see where things go from there?"
In other words: no, she was not opposed to the idea of marriage, but she wasn't exactly ready to say she'd be willing to do that with absolute certainty. But if anyone had a shot, then that was definitely Bones.

But somewhere after that first year things changed. He started getting more protective of her and more actively interested in keeping her together both mentally and physically. Then it hit him one day when someone went and said something about her they shouldn't have and he might have knocked them out. Say what you want about him, but leave Jane out of it. Least that's what he said that day. Luckily he didn't get punished too heavily for that if only cause Pike found the whole thing hilarious.
Least he'd kept it to himself. Last thing Leonard needed back then was for Jane to think he was an overbearing thug taking over her life.
Turning his head at her words, he snorted softly. "What? You mean all our best friend time suddenly including him most of the time wasn't sharing?" Not that he minded anymore. At first he did. But slowly he got used to the guy and his irritating logic turned into a game of sarcasm for Leonard. "Thank god, we'll never be the same. Could you imagine two of that guy walkin' around?"
Smirking just a little, he found it faltering at her comment about marriage and dating. Coughing to cover that sudden choke on his words, he put on his best condescending eyebrow. "Wait, you thought that was a proposal? Sorry to bust your bubble, darlin' but I wasn't talkin' about you. I was totally meanin' the Enterprise. Just gonna sweep her right out from under yours and Scotty's noses before you know it." How he kept a straight face sayin' that, he'll never know.
no subject
And now... well, now she'd changed. She might've even had one or two flings that ended up being a little more serious, but not for a long time, and certainly nothing since she started seeing her best friend in a different light. It had been a special kind of torture at times, but seeing where they stood now, how things had played out? She didn't regret any of it, not even one bit.
"It wasn't all of our best friend time. Stop being such a jealous grump," she snorted, unable to stop herself from teasing Bones just a little. She knew how he felt about the guy at first, really, and Bones had never been especially subtle about it either. Jane just wanted Spock to feel welcome, and like he was a part of something— because he was. She had a hunch the Vulcan never did have an easy time making actual friends, so. No harm in giving him a little push.
Opening her mouth and pulling an expression of feigned offense, she let out a gasp, slapping lightly at Bones's chest. "Excuse you? Well I'll have you know, you're not having her. She's very much taken already, and neither Scotty nor I are willing to share."
no subject
Which also heavily fed into his reasoning for never saying anything about his personal feelings. Because it was better to have her as his friend than to lose Jane entirely. He just hated how accurate the 'jealous' part had been for so long. So what if that made him a bigger grouch than even normal some days.
Tipping his head a little, he looked down at her and arched a brow. "So you say." The corner of his lips pulled upward before he looked away with a soft chuckle. Truth be told, he did like the damn tin can. She held together for them when they needed her to most. And held them up till she couldn't anymore. But he was nowhere near the levels of love those two ridiculous people were at.
"If you show even half that voracity to keep me to yourself that you use for that ship o'yours... I will be one helluva lucky man." Still, the thought made him laugh in amusement, his head ducking just a little as his face lit up with the feeling.
no subject
And their little tiffs and disagreements aside, Jane knew that Uhura was just... that one special person for Spock. Much like she'd quickly realized that Bones was hers.
"Oh, I'll keep you to myself, alright. Let anyone try and put a ring on your finger and I might actually bite them. Or punch them in the face, I'm good that that." More like she was good at getting punched in the face, but details. She was joking anyway. The way Bones was, honest and direct to a fault, he'd clear up any misunderstandings and make his lack of interest in anyone but Jane all too obvious.
"Anyway," she pecked his lips one last time, then pulled away again, catching his hand and tugging him along. "Come on. Wasted enough time, don't you think?"
no subject
He meant it. Simply put, he wasn't interest in anyone else. Just her. Been just her for a damn long time. Which was why he only nodded when she pulled at his hand to get him to move faster. He wanted to be close to her. Closer with far less between them, including clothing. Which was why he led them back into the hotel pretty quickly and up to his room.
And well, the moment the door closed, he wrapped his arms around her waist and pressed soft kisses down the curve of her neck. "Wanna have that bath with me now?"
no subject
Luckily he seemed to be just as driven, so they made their way back to the hotel room quickly after that, if somewhat hastily. At least with the vast majority of their crew still at that beach party, they didn't cross paths with any familiar faces and no awkward moments were had— not that she would care either way, only for the fact that it might've delayed them further.
She didn't get to turn around as the door closed, and she let out a soft eager little gasp when she felt his lips on her neck. Eyes sliding closed, she tipped her head to the side, taking hold of his hands and guiding them down to the waistband of her shorts. "I think that bath can wait just a little longer, don't you?"
no subject
Curling his fingers into shorts, he hummed a low sound just behind her ear. "Pushy aren't we?" Leaning closer, he tipped his head to watch what his hands were doing. Not because he needed to, but because he wanted to see the skin being revealed as he peeled the clothing of of her along with the still damp material of her underwear. Once the material curled over the swell of her hip, he splayed his hands over her pelvis and pulled her back against him firmly.
"God Jane, you're so damn beautiful." He pushed his hands down, cupping her thighs on each side till the clothes fell to the floor on their own then slowly skimmed back up her body to glide under her shirt. All he knew was he wanted all of her clothes off before he even pushed her into the mattress. And hurried as he was to have her and make her his... the doctor wanted to take his time with her.
