Had Credence not been almost completely oblivious to the Wizardly world and the magical beast, he might have realized that a Nundu was the sort of creature to admire from a safe distance. Some wizards would suggest a distance of a few countries, even, giving how dangerous they could be. But Credence was as fascinated by it as he had been by any other creature Newt had shown him or told him about in detail.

"...Sorry." He was quick to amend, looking at the ground as if it was all of sudden the most interesting thing in the room.

He couldn't help the wariness he felt whereas it looked like he did something wrong. Newt had been kind to him, had shown him more patience and understanding than Credence even though possible and he was worried about disappointing the man. His gaze fell on his wrist, Newt's touch light but warm and his flushed cheeks turned a shade darker.

"It's a really impressive creature."

He is, isn't he?

[ the fondness in newt's tone is unmistakable. the nundu is a dangerous creature and one that most wizards are not only scared but terrified of. newt can understand it, to some degree — under the wrong conditions, the nundu can be devastating and lead to terrible consequences. under the right conditions, however? neither newt nor credence are in any kind of danger from this fellow. ]

I think the last time they tried to subdue one like him, they backed it in a corner and it took a hundred wizards to put it down. [ fondness is replaced by anger and regret, for a moment, before newt shakes his head, as though to shake off both emotions. ] It's wasteful, really. Just because no one understands how to approach a Nundu. They're not wrathful or evil creatures.

[ newt is still watching the nundu, but his thumb is rubbing small circles against the skin of credence's inner wrist. ]

"Poor thing. He must trust you a lot if you managed to convince him to get inside the case." The beast looked really dangerous but it was not like Credence was one to judge that kind of things. He almost destroyed half of New York too, when scared and angry. Lucky for him, and for the Nundu, Newt seemed to have infinite patience.

He shuddered a little, the touch sending a thrill down his spine. It was small, a brush of fingers, but it made him feel warm and lean into Newt very slightly.
